| Family Literacy teaches parents how to engage their children with books, and encourages families to read together at home. These classes provide opportunities for parents and children to learn together.
Since early 2002, Family Literacy classes have been meeting weekly at several Head Start sites and other locations. The program is a gateway for Head Start parents to enroll in ESL or Adult Literacy classes at LIFT. During July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009 LIFt served 8,325 adult learners. 31% (2,550) of these adult learners participated in Family Literacy Workshops resulting in approximately 6,375 individuals benefiting from the learning experience. 100% of the adult learners who participated in the workshops improved on at least half of their goals.
