Adult Literacy

Adult Basic Literacy offers a proven strategy that prepares a stronger North Texas workforce to ensure the health, well-being and economic strength of our citizens and employers. The objective of LIFT's Adult Basic Literacy program is to build financial independence and increased self-reliance for low literate adults. All classes are taught at LIFT, 2121 Main St. in downtown Dallas.  Please call 214-824-2000 for session dates and times.

Texas Scottish Rite (TSR)
Phonics instruction curriculum developed especially for persons with learning differences and disabilities. Reading comprehension, basic writing and life skills applications, are included.

Classes meet for 2 hours, twice a week, Monday through Thursday. Offered at three progressive skill levels, TSR classes continue for 20 months.

Reading Workshop
Basic literacy instruction with verbal practice on reading, pronunciation, word recognition, phonics and basic writing skills.

Classes meet for 12 weeks, two times a week for 2 hours each session, Monday through Thursday.

Advanced Skills
When adult learners successfully complete LIFT's main curriculum they may continue with Challenger Series books which concentrate on reading comprehension and improving reading, writing and spelling skills.

Classes meet once a week for 2 hours, Monday through Thursday. The Voyager Series lasts 12 weeks at each level, with a total of 8 comprehension levels.
