Family Literacy Workshops

Workshops are offered at preschools where low income parents participate with their children in parent/child reading exercises. Weeklong workshops, facilitated by trained LIFT staff, encourage parents to positively engage and mentor through reading with their child. Family Literacy Workshop uses the highly acclaimed curriculum Learning by Leaps and Bounds developed by Nell Carvell from Southern Methodist University. Parents and children read from The Oxford Picture Dictionary for Kids” using a 3-step process that instructs, asks for recall and checks for understanding.

Parents who need reading classes are given an opportunity enroll in LIFT's Adult Basic Literacy, ESL or GED Preparation classes.

Family Literacy Workshops are offered at participating child development centers.
